NDOKWA
TRADITIONAL ENTERTAINMENT
WHAT IS CULTURE
Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular
group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social
habits, music and arts.
The Center for Advance Research on Language Acquisition goes
a step further, defining culture as shared patterns of behaviors and
interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by
socialization. Thus, it can be seen as the growth of a group identity fostered
by social patterns unique to the group.
The word “culture” derives from a French terms, which in turn
derives from the Latin “colere” which means to tend to the earth and grow, or
cultivation and nurture. “It shares its etymology with a number of other words
related to actively fostering growth”. Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at
Barnet and Southgate College in London, told Live Science.
Many countries are largely populated by immigrants, and the
culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the
country. This is also a part of growth. As the countries grow, so does its
cultural diversity
NDOKWA TRADITIONAL ENTERTAINMENT.
Whether its celebratory,
energizing, cathartic, funny, or just plain embarrassing, dance is one of the
best art forms for expression. People gyrate in order to celebrate, commemorate
or even to prepare for some spiritual exercises.
Historic and Traditional dance goes
back hundreds and even thousands of years. Nigeria has the treasure of a variety
of folk and tribal dances in regions across the country. The South South region
which consists of various ethnic groups, have a list of traditional dances
performed as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, or exercise,
in a spiritual or performance setting, and these dances are sometimes used to
express ideas or tell a story.
It is however notable that the
people of Ndokwa in Delta State are noticeably endowed with various forms of
traditional entertainments. This region being the most Hospitable adopted many
people from other regions which made the Ndokwa people to have more different
kinds of Traditional Entertainment.
It is regrettably clear that in the
resent times these Traditional Entertainments are going into extinction either
because of religious prejudice or Civilization. Our people no longer take part
and see the beauty of the Ndokwa Traditional Entertainment, most Children don’t
know the names of these dances not to talk of to know the dance steps and what
they stood for. The Ndokwa people had all kinds of traditional entertainments
that suits almost all occasion of life.
In trying to seek for solution to
this ugly trend bedeviling the people of Ndokwa nation and the Preservation of
their Cultural Heritage, NDOKWA TALENTS calls for the immediate REVIVAL and
PRESERVATION of our Natural cum Cultural Values.
Consequently Ndokwa Talents is
initiating and seeking the approval of all in creating the NDOKWA CULTURAL DAY.
This day is to be set aside by the Ndokwa People to celebrate the oneness and
Cultural values of the Ndokwa People.
In seeking for the best way to
create the NDOKWA CULTURAL DAY, Ndokwa Talents is to organize what is called
the NDOKWA CULTURAL CONCERT. This concert will hold in the three LGAs of Ndokwa
nation. This concert is aimed at bringing back the awareness of the Ndokwa
Cultures and Values and to set a pace for the speedy development of Talents and
